Local Business Directories

Every local business directory establishes citations for your business. Citations are as important as website backlinks for local businesses. Every local business directory your business is listed on puts you in front of more potential consumers. If you know of more that should be on this list, please contact us.

Google My Business

Every local business should have a regularly maintained Google My Business profile completely set up. The most important place to set up your local business online is Google My Business. Be sure to add or claim your business listing.

Apple Maps

The default app for finding businesses on every iOS device is Apple Maps. Add or update your business information on Apple Maps. Apple Maps also pulls data from Yelp, so be sure to set up that profile also.

Bing Places

Similar to Google My Business, Bing allows you to maintain a business profile with information that can be found in the Bing search engine. You can claim and complete your profile on Bing Places.

Facebook Business Pages

Facebook has a local business directory that can be searched from anywhere on Facebook. Consumers can even see local businesses nearby. You’ll want to set up or claim your local business page on Facebook.

Yelp

Many sources pull data from Yelp, so this is another very important listing to keep regularly maintained. It’s ideal to claim your business listing if it already exists, but you can also set up a new business listing.

YP

Your business may already exist on the YP website, so it’s best to search for it and claim it first. If it doesn’t exist then you’ll need to add a new business listing. They will call you to try to sell you a premium listing tool.

Foursquare

Foursquare is still popular for finding places to eat, drink, shop, or visit and, yes, people are still checking into businesses with the Swarm app. You can search for your business to either claim it or add it to Foursquare and be found by people in your local area.

Manta

You’ll want to search Manta first before you add your business. Having a duplicate listing is no good. If your business is there, claim it, if not then you’ll need to add your business to Manta.

MerchantCircle

You may not find a lot of business from MerchantCircle depending on your industry but it’s a good place to establish a citation. You can claim your listing on MerchantCircle.

Hotfrog

Another local business directory to add a citation. You can add your business for free.

Infogroup

Infogroup licenses data to many sources for directories, marketing, and more. That means you’ll put yourself on some lists, but you can also submit your business to the Infogroup list.

Acxiom

Acxiom is another directory like Infogroup where data is pulled to other directories and licensed for other purposes. You can manage your listing on the Acxiom business listing manager.

Neustar Localeze

There’s no directory from Neustar Localeze, but many directories pull information from their directory. You can add your business to the Neustar Localeze directory, and you’ll see your business pop up on other directory services.

Superpages

Adding your business isn’t an easy process, and you’ll have to talk to their sales team. You can fill out the form to add your business on the Superpages website.

MapQuest

Believe it or not, people still use MapQuest to find businesses. You can go directly to their website to add your listings, but you’ll have to go through their support/sales team.

Local

You can create an account with Local and add your business pretty easily. The process of adding your business is pretty easy, but in the end, they try to push Yext.

Kadzu

You can easily set up your profile on Kudzu with very few issues. It was a quick process with just an email verification required, no more.

Yellowbook

You can’t modify your business profile without your business existing on Yellowbook. The catch? You can’t add your business to Yellowbook. So, I assume that only means you have to wait for Yellowbook to pull your business in from another directory and then you can modify it. Just keep checking back.

Citysearch

You can’t add your business to Citysearch directly but if you’d added your business with Express Update then it’ll also add to Citysearch. You can add your business to Express Update here.

ShowMeLocal

You can add your business to ShowMeLocal yourself, but some categories require you to do a paid phone verification. It’s not really a free directory if anybody has to pay. You can start adding your business, and it’ll tell you if you have to pay once you type in your category.

Chamber of Commerce

You can add your business to the Chamber of Commerce directory, but it does cost a lot of money. Probably not worth it to most but it’s included in Loclmark!

LocalStack

You can only claim your business on LocalStack, but you can’t add your business directly. To claim it your business has to first be listed, and then you have to click the claim this business button on your business page.

Brownbook

You can use their easy to fill out form to add your business to Brownbook. Adding a business is a bit tricky, but if you read it carefully, you should be able to make your way through the process.

Cylex

You can add your business to the Cylex business directory for free, but you do have to register.

InsiderPages

You can’t add your business directly to InsiderPages, but you can use the Express Update service to add it to InsiderPages and more.

EZlocal

There’s an easy process to add your business to EZlocal, but they will try to upsell you for many other services that are most likely mediocre at best.

eLocal

It’s easy to add your business to eLocal with a quick form and a verification of your email address.

Tupalo

You can’t add a business directly to the Tupalo directory.

ForLocations

You have to create an account with ForLocations in order to claim your business or edit listings. At the time of this writing their captcha was not working though, so there was no way to join.

CitySquares

You can join CitySquares to add your business.

Fave

There isn’t any easy way to add your business to Fave, but there are instructions out there to add a business manually, but they didn’t work for us.

2FindLocal

You can add a business to 2FindLocal yourself.

YaSabe

You can add a business to YaSabe yourself, but it costs money to join.

Angi

You can add your business to Angi yourself and even get reviews for a better presence.

Opendi

You can create a free basic listing on Opendi and manage it yourself. It doesn’t seem to work at the time I tried it.

MyHuckleberry

You can manually add your business to MyHuckleberry after you create an account. There are free options available and also paid. Their website might not always work well as it did not let me finish a listing at the time I tried, there was an error.

iBegin

You can create a free listing on iBegin after you create an account and verify your information.

N49

You can add a listing for free after creating an account and verifying your information. You’re also able to use a service like Loclmark to add your business to this and many other directories.

Thumbtack

Thumbtack is a directory where people can hire professionals for almost anything right from the website. It also ranks highly in many search results. You can create your business profile on Thumbtack and even get reviews without actually using the Thumbtack service. People can still contact you.

Make It Local

You can get your business listed for free after you fill out all the necessary information. They also have several upsells for premium listings.

B2B Yellow Pages

You can add a free listing to B2B Yellow Pages after a fairly complex form that doesn’t always work well. They do offer premium listings also.

Biz Votes

You must first browse to the correct city and category. Once you’re there you’ll find an “Add a Biz” button where you can add your business.

Tuugo

You can create a free business page on Tuugo after you’ve created an account and verified your email address. After you create an account for the local business directory, you can add your free business listing.

Loclweb Business Directory

After you create an account for the local business directory, you can add your free business listing.
